There’s a reason Hal Elrod named his book Miracle Morning. He was inspired to write this book after making an incredible recovery from a severe brain injury in 1999. He attributes this recovery to the simple concept of a morning routine.

Change your life by… waking up?

We know, we know. Waking up early sucks. But what if… it didn’t have to? What if we realized that getting out of bed early was just 10 seconds of annoyance, followed by an extremely happy and productive morning? Well, good news. That’s exactly what it can be.

Demetri Martin is on our page: “If you really think about it, hitting the snooze button in the morning doesn’t even make sense. It’s like saying ‘I hate getting up in the morning, so I do it over, and over, and over again’.” Well, when you put it that way…

Ya Snooze Ya Looze

Set your alarm, then place your phone far away from your bed. Sleep, get up, turn off the alarm, drink a tall glass of water (that tired feeling is usually just dehydration), and go into a separate room to get those habits goin’.

Setting the Tone

We always hear that we should make our bed in the morning, and not just to avoid our parents’ constant disappointment. Doing something productive right when you wake up gives you the confidence (and serotonin) to complete more productive tasks throughout the day. You chase that good feeling you get when you’re productive, and as a result, you will be more productive throughout the day.

Here is the part that stands out most about creating a miracle morning. It’s all over… in the morning. How much of your day is spent thinking about all the things you have to do when you get home? You better do that workout later. You need to read that book you said you’d finish a month ago. I thought you said you’d start meditating on Monday?! All that goes away. Poof. By 9am, the rest of your day is yours. No need to have all these looming thoughts of uncompleted tasks clouding your brain. You’re free. What a miracle.

Energy Sucker

We don’t realize how much energy this takes up. Elrod puts it beautifully: “If I did it in the morning before the rest of my life and work got in the way, I could guarantee that it happened every single day.” Once your boss Slacks you, once you accidentally stumble onto the couch, once life just gets in the way, your day is no longer yours. But, at least you got those things (whatever you choose them to be) done.

Choose one thing you would like to complete before you start the rest of your day. Calculate how much time it will take you. Work backward to set your alarm for the right time. Then, wake up and go!

Re: Start Slow. Once you solidify your first habit, add in another until your morning becomes miraculous.

Possible tasks: exercising, meditating, reading, walking outside, journaling, cleaning your room… The possibilities are endless.
